Monrovia, Liberia- For long time now the political life of the country has been tied to tribal, sectional, and religious divide.
The recent leadership crises at the liberia senate is bring the bitter tribal differecies to the flood again.
“If those who put you in power don’t want you any more, you have to leave. I am resigning as president pro-tempore of the Liberian senate,” Sen. Nyanibo announced during a senate session.
He had been under mounting pressure from his colleagues to resign following a five month crisis in the Liberian upper house which saw a majority of the senators boycotting sessions after Nyanibo was accused of misrepresenting academic attainments, and financial mal-practices.
But is he seen his forceful departure as a political failure or the continuation of the age old ethnic differencies and greed for the more lucretive budget the Senate pro-temp owns in the Liberian National Budget.
In his resignation remark Tuesday he noted all of the points above.
This invited reactions from the public including Nimba County Senior Senator Prince Y. Johnson who reveal the leavel of poor relationship that have exited between he and Nyanibot at the Senate.
Sen. Johnson said the former Senate Pro-temp arranged and brought hire killers into the country to kill him.
Leaders of the two Counties recently had what they called reconciliation meeting with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf but what did the meeting achieve.
Last Friday, 23 of the 30 senators signed a petition asking for the resignation of the entire senate leadership after a vote of no-confidence.
The vice president of Liberia is officially the leader of the senate, though the president pro-tempore leads the day-to-day affairs of the upper house.Senator Isaac Nyenabo’s recent resignition addressed presented the re-emergence of the bitter tribal conflict between his county (Grand Gedeh) and Nimba County.
